Hallmark Aims for Gay Market with Same-Sex Marriage Cards

America’s biggest name in greeting cards is taking aim at the gay and lesbian demographic with new products to celebrate same-sex marriages. Hallmark will be offering the gay marriage greeting cards this summer to its stores, which can choose whether or not they want to carry the products. But while the news has spread across the Net about the new cards, Hallmark's own website seems silent on the subject.

Gay Rights Supporter Rep. Stephanie Tubbs Jones Dies

Ohio Representative and Democratic superdelegate Stephanie Tubbs Jones has died after suffering an aneurysm while driving her car on Tuesday night. A strong supporter of gay rights, Tubbs Jones was elected in 1998 as the first black woman to represent Ohio in Congress. During the 2008 presidential primaries, Tubbs Jones was one of Hillary Clinton’s biggest supporters. She changed her allegiance to Barack Obama in June after he was established as the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee.

McCain Takes Five-Point Lead Over Obama in Latest Reuters/Zogby Poll
Obama slips in key demographics

Continuing his surge against Barack Obama, Republican Senator John McCain has pulled ahead of his Democratic rival by five percentage points in the latest Reuters/Zogby telephone survey. McCain now leads Obama by a 46 percent to 41 percent margin. The results of the latest Reuters/Zogby poll represent a dramatic reversal from an identical survey taken last month. In the July 9-13 Reuters/Zogby survey, Obama led McCain, 47 percent to 40 percent.

Dave Matthews Band Mourns Death of Saxophonist LeRoi Moore

LeRoi Moore, founding member and saxophonist for the Dave Matthews Band, died on Tuesday at Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center in Los Angeles. Moore’s death reportedly resulted from complications related to an ATV accident he suffered in June. had been discharged from the hospital and returned to his Los Angeles home to begin a physical rehabilitation program, but complications from the accident sent him back to the hospital on July 17. LeRoi Moore was 46 years old.

Everyone in the LGBT community was rooting for Matthew Mitcham, who competed in the men’s 3 meter springboard event at the Olympic Games. He graced the cover of The Advocate magazine and made headlines across Australia as the only athlete competing in the Games to be openly gay. And we couldn’t be more proud of him.
